79 Euro--How do I take out my injectors?
Hi,
I have a 79 Euro 928, Sputtering problem that gets better up the revs anyway Have changed oil, fuel and oil filter, plugs, ht leads, rotor arm, dist cap -- All genuine, need to take out my injectors for cleaning but cant get them out. I managed to take 1 out by tuning the 12mm injector which in turn removed the sealing ring aswell but any other 1 I try the injector wants to turn in the ring. I tried to pull them out but no joy again. I have a 78 911 and the injectors pull out fairly easy. Dont want to force anything. Any help woul be great Thanks Dave |

you can use a 12 point socket (13/16th I think) to tap onto the sealing ring and then ratchet it out.
it will deform the outside of the ring, but if you are gentle with it, you can re-use the ring. if you have the intake tubes off the car, you can use a pipe wrench to loosen the rings. either way, it's not pretty....but it works with most stuck rings. at it's worst, you may have to cut the rings out of the tube, and then purchase new/used sealing rings. replace the rubber seals while your doing this as well. CIS injectors can be sonically cleaned, but not rebuilt. I would not due to cost versus new>>>>>if you are replacing the injectors, best price Arizona ******** (online) has Mercedes Benz 047 injectors for about $19 bucks USD. Yes, they will work in your 928 just fine. cleaning will cost you nearly the same as the new MB injectors. --Russ

I am not sure what you mean, does the injector pull out of the sealing ring? Are you using the socket as a base to racket off?
Thanks Seen your post before about the merc injectors, I live in ireland and the Bosch stuff is easy got here, Thanks |

yes they pull out with the injector...i think on the 79's ,there the same as the 78's...they dont use a o-ring...its a large rubber fitting that goes inside the outer sleave and hold the injector ...use the MB injectors!!...i did...they work great, i got my set from (Mike) barbapapa form his used race engine...

you are saying the the injector is turning while inside the aluminum sleeve.
this is because of corrosion (usually) or someone over tightening the aluminum sleeve into the intake tube. to remove the sleeve/injector when having this problem, you have few options as I wrote above: 1. use a 12 point socket (13/16) and drive it onto the aluminum sleeve. then put a ratchet onto the socket and rotate out of the intake tube. 2. remove the intake tube from the engine and use a pipe wrench to remove the sleeve/injector 3. remove the intake tube from the engine, drive the injector out of the sleeve (thru the intake tube) and then use step 3. either way, it you have a stuck aluminum sleeve, you are likely to destroy it in the removal process. once you have the sleeve/injector out of the intake tube, then you can drive/push the injector and rubber seal out of the aluminum sleeve. use new rubber seals when you re-install the injectors. the OEM Bosch injectors are near $80 per where as the MB injectors are less that $20 per.....here in the US----big difference. --Russ

Had the same issue, that sealing ring ends up being like it's welded on there. I had to use vice grips to get mine off and yes I had to replace most of the sealing rings after that. They are not that expensive, so not really worth trying to save. Once your injectors are out, replace all the seals that fit inside the ring, they go on one way (ask me how I know). I am sure I have a post out there that says which way, I put silicone grease on them before putting them in the ring. I ended up getting the OEM one from ******** in Arizona but it seems like yo got it covered over where you are.

Thanks all for your info.
I made a tool today for removing my injectors. They pull out.. An o- ring in the aluminum piece holds them in place. The brass MB injectors with part number 0437502047 are the upgraded version. My car has 0437502012 installed. Are these the factory injectors? Checked the price on ******** Arizona and the 0437502047 are $21.48 ---- the 0437502012 are $ 34.56 Just wondering how the upgraded ones are cheaper than the origional.. Thanks Dave |

I run the 047 in my Euro.
big difference in performance, before I broke 7 pistons..... ![]() seems to me to be a bargain, upgraded part/less money. can't imagine why you wouldn't think so as well? --Russ

What did you notice when you replaced all 8 of them? Just curious as I was going to replace with all OEM in the future.

well, it just plain ran better. my problem was that I had 16 (OEM 928) injectors to choose from---the set that was in the car when I bought it, and another set I acquired when buying a bunch of other stuff. out of those 16, only 2 had a proper spray pattern, and they weren't up to my standards for good injectors--needed cleaning, required very little pressure to make them spray, etc.... mind you, I've been dealing with diesel injectors for decades that are similar to the CIS injector, so I kind of know what to look for..... at any rate, I was looking for a suitable replacement and found the 047 injector. as advertised, or so I read, the 047 is an updated injector put into service long after the 928 injector was superseded by the electronic injectors. additionally, it's made of brass where as the Porsche unit is steel. the brass probably contributes to less corrosion. the 047 is a shorter injector, and that may help (power) by keeping the injector further from the valve. Bottom line is the low cost of the 047 VS the Porsche OEM VS cleaning an old set of Porsche OEM. Besides, the entire set (freshly cleaned) I got happened to be on eBay for $56 delivered...... --Russ
