newbie question

Could someone please point me to the appropraite thread explaining how to correctly, and most importantly, safely, test a relay? My experience with electrical matters is definetly lacking. I am willing and ready to learn, but don't want to damage anything in the process.

Which one are you trying to test? Sometimes there are more than one of the same relay. If you know that relay works perfectly (ie: window goes up and down) and the one you need to test is the same relay, then just switch them out.

Alan is electrical guru and chimes in once in awhile so you may have to wait and be patient for your answer.

I'm trying to figure out why the entire hvac system is not working.
I pulled the "Fresh Air (HVAC) Blower" relay, ran a hot wire from the CE panel to pole 30 on the relay, a wire from pole 30 to pole 87, turned the ignition switch to #2, and then put the test light on pole 87. It lit up, so the relay is good. Plugged it back in, and nothing.
Then I did something I was very nervous about, but luckily had a positive outcome. I took a piece wire and bridged the 2 points on the CE panel where pole 30 and 87 on the blower relay plug in. It shot a spark, but I checked my fuses and they were good. I plugged the relay back in, and whoo-hoo, the blower now works! You know, "Even the sun shines on a dogs a** some days." It only blows through the defrost vents though, so I will be going back to your thread "Heat through door vents" to troubleshoot.

get a fuse relay chart here www.928gt.com and replace all of the fuses with good fuses check for the corrct PN of the relays and their locations.
From your post you had a failed fuse if the whole system isnt working and jumping it may have welded it back together

Merlin- I replaced EVERY single fuse with new ones a few weeks ago after I pulled the CE panel and cleaned all of the contacts with a drimmel brush. To be honest, I don't know what the spark did, but bridging across to those 2 contacts did something. All fuses were good before the incident, and all fuses are good after it too. Part of me is curious as to what happened that made the blower work, but the other part of me doesn't really care because it DOES work now and that's all that really matters.

I think you should remove the resistance pack from the blower duct and inspect it its held in with 2 screws careful you dont drop them into the well , use a magnet near the screw as it comes out
