Well, back in from my hobby room
![]() The euro engine is a 28/08 engine and the us is a 28/15. I pulled all the pistons from the euro engine now, and they are all intact and in very good shape. One thing of interest. The US pistons are dished - the euro flat - which would explain the difference in compression ratio. I have attached a few pictures including an example of the bad pistons. I have also included a picture of the renovated AFC system - and by the way - it fits right into place on top of the euro block. So, so far, I am a very happy camper. Ruined piston...damn... ![]() AFC ![]() Thanks gents for all your help. I thought about creating a thread about the complete restoration of the car. It will be pretty lengthy (read - alot of other projects including a full time job in the aor force - but would it be a good idear? See you all K.c. |

28/08 is not on any of my engine charts, maybe its an /09 (80-82 non S 4.5L 5 spd 10:0 comp CIS), or /03 (77-79 US 4.5L 5 spd 8.5 comp CIS)?
28/15 is a 81-82 US 4.5L 5 spd 9.0 comp Ljet. All the blocks I think are the same, low output around 220 hp, but pistons I believe are all different, not sure on rods etc., but cranks all the same too I think. |

Fortnum and Mason meat dept had a raw cured on the bone ham from some special breed of pig range fed only on acorns, and they would shave off thin strips for some crazy price. I don't think its even legal to sell ham that good in the USA.

As for the 28/08 engine - you are right. It is not in the US published manuals. I happen to have a set of the german manuals also, and the 28/08 engine is not listed there either.....I went back to my shop, did some cleaning, and it turned out a 9. So 28/09. So we are looking at a 229HP versus the 28/15 block which is 220. The euro block came with the K-jet and the US with the L-jet.
Good catch. As for ham - I live in Denmark and we pretty much fund our social system on bacon export to the UK - so no complaints in that department ![]() |
