Power window problems

I'm going to put my constant heat problem on hold for a moment and try to concentrate on getting the driver's side window to go down (after all, i need to let the constant heat out )
The pass window works (but it works all the time with the key in or out - that doesn't seem normal to me, but i'll let that slide for the moment). I swapped the drivers side and pass side switches and determined both switches work fine. When I press the driver's side switch, i hear clicking coming from inside the driver's side door panel. I'm assuming that means it's a faulty motor. Would you agree with that?

a clicking noise indicates a bad gear drive , best to remove the door panel then remove the lift arm from the window( tape window in the UP position )remove the motor from the lift arm then remove the arm from the door,
test the motor ( take the motor apart and clean it )lube all of the linkages and the pivot pin for the arm. Check the gears on the arm and the motor replace any worn parts

and even better... at no cost!!!

I took the motor out and apart. everything was kind of seized and not moving properly due to dirt, grime and old grease. after cleaning everything thoroughly and re-greasing it, i put it back together and it worked like new! happy day.

darn. spoke to soon. stopped working again. it's back to a clicking sound coming from the motor. argh!

My passenger side window won't go up. It's in the full down position, and it doesn't make any noises at all. I wonder if the lack of noise indicates a wiring problem?

It might simply be your switch. 1st test would be to verify with a meter that power is getting to the switch. or you can swap the passenger switch with the driver's side switch and then see if it works. if it does, then it's the switch.

if you determine the switch is fine, you can then remove the door panel and use your meter to determine that the window motor is getting power. if power is getting to the motor, then you have a motor problem.

Roger that. I've decided that I'm going to replace all the switches in the center console at the same time. I opened them up today and they were loaded black crud. I lost the steel ball for the moonroof switch. Thank goodness it was closed. I barely nudged it trying to remove it and it jumped right through a little hole in the switch and fell into the bowels of the center console. I was like .

Then I had a look at the switches for the driver seat. I was trying to remove one of the panel screws and it popped out and fell into the parking brake hold. I was like . My magnet was too large to fit in there.

Then I started thinking about what else I could screw up today, but couldn't think of anything else I could mess with.

I know what you mean! Sometimes best to let it go a day. If you rush things, especially on this car, you can screw up, so take it easy and take your time.

OMG, that's hilarious. I did the same thing. No worries, this is how it goes with a 30 year old car. Brittle plastic and fiesty springs and bearings make a eye poking mission out of it. You'll get it, just try and focus on one thing at a time.
