Yes, pretty sure it is supposed to light up. It does on my '84. I was able to access the back of the clock fairly easily by removing the carpeted trim panel on the passenger side of the center console/tunnel. Then reach through and the bulb unclips somehow.

I removed three screws on the kick plate on the upper right side of the drivers footwell.
I then removed the drivers side cover for the center console. Looking at the rear of the digital clock I removed the round center bulb holder. It had a very small bulb in it, which pulled right out. I did not see any listings for this bulb, so I matched it up by eye at Auto Zone. I used a SYLVANIA 2721 LL. I put the new bulb in and turned on the parking lights to see if it worked before replacing the cover. It did not. I then realized it had to be put back in the clock to be grounded. I put it in and it worked. Now I will attempt the A/C control bulb |
