My new project.... yikes!

Hello everyone.... I am a new Porsche owner. She is a 1979 Porsche 928. She does not run but does turn over and try to start. I was told by previous owner that WUR needs replaced. As I have never owned a Porsche before I am taking it slow and hope to learn a lot. There are a couple hoses that need replaced and I will post pic of engine bay soon. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Is there any of you out there in 928 land that live near me and can evaluate my new ride? Before I spend much time I would like to know what my best route is....

Again thanks everyone.
btw.... the vin is 9289102922 if anyone can tell me anything special about it.

Welcome aboard! Great bunch of folks here that are very helpful.

As you encounter/uncover interesting and troublesome issues, posting pic's will help us help you.

Looks like your rig has had some "S" additions...get the WSM and Parts diagrams (PET). These are referenced in the interactions where necessary.

Carey,
Best is to buy the Jim Morehouse cd's...I lost his contact info from years ago...others may chime in on where to get them/it.

However, below is a link to some. I am not sure of the completeness of the contents, but they could be helpful until you get an accurate set.
Manuals

I say accurate because you may have a '78 OB (original body) but with the "S" additions I see, you may have something different under the hood. Post a pic and the engine number...hard to see but above the crank pulley front top left next to the water bridge (rad. hose goes into the bridge) pas. side. flat surface has the # on it.

Thats not the motor number. Not sure where it will be on an early euro car. The motor looks real clean and looks like someone was taking care of it at some point. Get the CD's from Roger at 928's R Us...great guy to deal with. You CAN NOT own one of these without the manuals.

Check basics after you get your manuals. Fuel, spark, combustion. My non running first project ended up being the tensioner was shot so the TB was loose. It would be great to make sure the TB is on right, tight and ready for flight!

The engine # should be stamped on the block to the right of the AC Valve (the thing that hangs from the crossbar) and to the right of the Aux. Air Regulator (the thing with the hose that is split. And below the plug wire bundle that is between the two components mentioned. It is probably covered with some dirt but you will see it...move the wires aside and look close below.

928Intl. has the hose that is split, it goes to the cold start valve where the other end is pictured. A hose "T" is inline and the "T" (smaller hose) goes to the AC valve.

79 Euro, some different lights, dash may not be english, but no real differences from the US 79. Spoiler on the back isn't original, so may have been in an accident.

Looks kind of like the previous owner was doing stuff, so I would start with checking the whole top of the engine, all vacuum lines etc.

The WUR is the little rectangular box that has a long hose hanging off it at the front of the engine. Many CIS owners here, so search and read a few old threads, then start with the questions and you should be in good hands.

Thanks, I found some shop manuals online and will be purchasing PET cd's tomorrow and begin. Most of interior is disassembled and I do know I need a printed circuit for back of speedo cluster... mine in bad shape and dash is in bad shape so it will be coming out.

Hey everyone.... just a quick question and opinions from the crowd. Previous owner said i could switch to efi off a S4.... would that work? Make sense? complicated? He said it would solve issue with WUR?
Any thoughts?

Kind of what I thought too....
Thanks for thoughts....I'm trying to locate # for hose i need to replace and find schematic on vacuum lines and such so I know where everything goes.
The shop manual I DL'd ended up for a late 80's model of 928.... so I'm still looking. I left message about purchase of CD's... their ordering seemed to be down yesterday.
