Removing OB Cams

Is there a "trick" to getting the cams out of the cam covers on my 79? It feels like something is holding them in place but I can't find what it is. I have the WSM, but I don't find it all that helpful with this task.

I'd rather ask than break something...

Is the cam tower on the car? Did you remove the front part of the housing? Pics of where you are at would help.

got it

Yes they're out of the car. I'd post a pic now but I'm too far along for it to correlate.

Right after I posted my initial question I realized I had inadvertently covered the woodruff key with tape intending to keep the cam surface from getting damaged. With the key removed, it just took a few taps and everything came right off...

If the lifters have been removed and the front covers are off, they should slide right out. Maybe one of the cam tower bolts is stuck inside and blocking the cam from sliding?
