Post the number here, I can look it up for you.

Things to check? Are you taking it in for a prepurchase inspection? You can do a compression check, check the alignment of the front, look underneath for leaks. When was the belt(s) last changed?

Thumbs up

Mr. Wayne:

Yes, I´m talking about a prepurchase inspection (mecanically).
Also I want to ask the comments about this model ?

In the excellence magazine says that the parts to repair the european models are difficult to find ?
I like this car because is the european (engine), more than 300 hp and the 4 automatic trans.
But I never have one, then please help me.

I can´t give you the serial number because I don´t know, until the friday I will travel to other city to view it ( first time ).
Thanks

If it's a Euro car it will not have side marker light.
It should have H4 headlamps (the big ones).
There won't be a sticker on the the door jamb with the VIN number on it.
There won't be a plate with the VIN number on the windshield post.
It should have a headlight adjuster by the parking brake lever.
Finally; check the owners manual that should be with the car.

Apart from that, it's an old 928..check every single thing to make sure it works. You probably will need at least three hours to look over this car. The most important is the electrical system and ac.
Drive the car and check for normal operation of the engine, drivetrain and suspension. You can't check enough!!!!

That's true. If you're in North America, and it's a European car, then be very beware, as it is hard to find parts over here. Most dealers don't carry them, we can't get them, and you'll have to special order them from European suppliers...

Most often, the fuel injection components are specifically tuned for the lesser emissions requirements, and they won't work with the USA components.

This is most common with the 911 Turbos (which were only sold in Europe for many years). They were grey-market imported into the states, but the fuel system components are nearly impossible to find here because none of the dealers can order them. I think that it may actually be against the law (technically) to import them...

???

I am about to look at a 1982 928 with an asking price of $2900.00 and I was looking for some things to check for quickly when I ran across your question. The advice I can give you is to make sure that if it is a ROW (rest of the world) car that it has the DOT and EPA compliance letters. I purchased a 911 at a US Marshal auction that turned out to be a ROW and it would have cost me a LOT to get it checked for compliance but it was (took two months to find out). A ROW VIN starts out WPOZZZ. With the advancement of PC in all sorts of work places, it is getting more difficult to hide and insure a ROW. IT is ILLEGAL to sell a ROW because it is unsafe (in theory) or rather it does not meet our federal safety requirements. IF you sell it and the new owner gets hurt in a wreck, he can sue you for selling an unsafe car. I have heard cases where you may have purchased insurance only to be dropped when a wreck occurs because the car is NOT in compliance. I found out that my 911 is a ROW from my State Farm agent. Now to continue my search to find things that will flag this car so I can walk away. It is to replace the 914 project car with my 13 year old son that I believe is just too rusty and not cost effective to fix. Good luck.

Since I think you are only looking for the engine anyway. the motor will have two distributors. Rated at 310 HP
Be real interesting in a 914. although it has been done before.
Just go for the standard compression check and look at overall condition of ancillary engine components.
When was the last time the Timing belt / water pump and seals been done. General rule is 5-7 years and up to 50,000 miles.
