Jiggley 928 windows
I have a question about my jiggley windows and I am wondering if someone out there has advice on how to remedy the situation. I have a 84 928S. When my windows are midway down they shake when I drive over bumps and I can wiggle the window forward and back by hand. I took the door panel off to see how things work and what the problem might be and found that the window tracks on a tube with two plastic guides. The guides have a lot of clearance between the opening and tube (1-2mm/side) which seems to be what is allowing the window to move around. The confusing thing is that the clearance in the guides does not look like wear but rather designed in clearance. Might there be some bushings that are missing? If anyone has any information on how I can keep my windows from moving around I would appreciate the feedback.
Thank you - Martin |

The metal tube that they side on slips over a pin in the bottom of the door with a rubber grommet taking up the play That could be gone too. See if the metal guide tube moves. There are also felt covered rubber guides that could be worn as well.

How are your window wiper seals on the door (the two long seals; one interior and one exterior)? I had this same issue and changing out my dry-rotted seals cured this. See above post also. One of these fixes should clear this up.

What Pete says plus I heard those White Nylon Guides surrounding those Metal Tubes wear down and cause this play. It's a to-do thing I need to happen on my Euro.

Make sure all your hardware is fully tightened down. My pax window was very loose, left to right motion, opened panel, found loose hardware securing the guide to the tube, one screw was in the bottom of the door. The screws drive in upside down, and will fall out eventually.

I saw someone somewhere that had succes in taking up slack in the nylon guides with a thick zip-tie. Anyone else remembering this?

Yes, this is why I suggested to just buy the Guide(s) instead of Ghetto'ing this with zip-tyes.
