'79 euro exhaust

Got a question about the stock exhaust system. Looking at the exploded parts diagrams, there is a front muffler, silencer, and then rear muffler. I don't see a CAT. Is the CAT part of one of the mufflers or do I just not have one?

Pretty sure a true Euro (ROW) didn't have a Cat until it was Federalized upon importation to the USA. Any early US 928 has a Cat to Resonator to a Rear Pumpkin Muffler. I can't be 100% on the Euro and Cat answer but it would make sense to me.

I can be 100% on the euro, no cat until 1989!

It was an option in some countries (like Switzerland), but otherwise a Euro should have a primary muffler instead of a cat. An I'm glad that is the case, since mine is blowing a tiiiny tiny bit of oil, and that would ruin a cat

Good to know.....I dropped the exhaust last night and looked into the first muffler thinking it was a CAT, but really didn't look like one. Can check that item off the list. I am thinking about removing the back pumpkin and just putting a straight pipe there from the resonator back. Anyone else doing this?

IMO, I wouldn't. I think it will be too loud, but's that subjective. Some have done the RMB (rear muffler bypass) but I think that's on the later models. Go with a rear muffler in my opinion. Heres a vid of my Euro with Morroso Spiral Flow Muffler, but my S will get a Magnaflow Muffler.
