From one problem too the next.....

Hi guy's,

I guess it's the curse of the old-timer (i mean the car)

Just replaced the brake rotors and pads (had to use an impact driver to get the little screws out of the old rotors), filled the gas tank and cleaned the car, now i can't get into the boot.
The key won't even insert fully into the lock....sigh...

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to open the boot?

You should be able to pull the knobs next to driver & passenger seat to release the boot hatch.

If it doesn't disengage properly, you might need someone to stand at the back, lifting lightly as you pull the hatch-release.
Please post your car model & year number (presume it's a 'Euro' model as you're in Amsterdam).

It's just the car needs to come back to life. It's asking you to invest some time in what is going to be a very good relationship

For the lock I would use a lock specific lubricant and cleaner. I get some stuff thats a mix of a solvent and graphite particles. Spray it in the lock and work a key in and out a few times.

Thanks for the suggestion but i don't have the knobs near the seat, just the lock on the hatch i'm afraid.

I didn't think of lifting the hatch, i just tried pushing down, i'll try that next.

Mine has it's share of hatch-release problems. There issues with it.
Can you crawl into the back, take the toolkit cover off, and release the hatch from there?

I've heard of locks getting difficult, but not going in sounds odd. Hard to say until we know whats actually wrong.

Locks need a dry lubricant, like graphite. Sometimes people use oil and that attracts dirt and can cause troubles.

Has the key worked in the past?

I had the same problem. I was able to just push down on the hatch with one hand and put the key in with the other and turn while pushing down. Gunar

Thanks for the tip, a little silicone lube and a puff of graphite powder did the trick, smooth as butter now.
