this isnt hard,
first tie rags around your wrists to catch any fuel that might want to travel down your arms.

to drain the tank remove the hose from the pump inlet let it drain,
you might consider removing the sender to take a peek inside the tank,

NOTE you could refill the tank with some fuel and jumper the fuel pump at the CE panel to run the new fuel through the system ,
the sender must be refitted for this.

refill with some fuel and drain it again,
there isnt any need to blow out the the lines,
it may create more of a fire hazard than anything,
If at all possible work outside

There are two main fuel lines that go to the engine compartment. I used carb cleaner through them before blowing them out. Your going to disconnect the lines from the front, and while you have hem disconnected, you should replace or rebuild those fuel lines. Theses are the famous rubber lines that cause 928 fires.

Proper tank flushing "requires" that tank to be removed. Any other way, your going to risk the chance of destroying that nice new pump of yours.

I just though I would post onestar's CIS Engine to put this into better perspective.

Hawaii and it's high humidity weather put a toll on it, plus you can imagine the underside of this car too.

You can't flush the tank without removing it > end of story > if you try to most likely you will just stir up gunk from the Tank and send it all through the system / injectors / lines and such.
Best way to Flush the tank is to have it Boiled out at a Radiator Shop > hard to find one that will do it however > Or you can pour a TSP mixture in the Tank ( HOT WATER WITH TSP ) and slosh it around and let it sit then Flush it out several times >> Mix a new batch of TSP ( HOT ) and do it again until clean > a spray Car Wash is a big help here to flush out the Tank. Reinstall the Tank
( It's a tight fit ) Your new fuel Pump > If the tank was very dirty i would use yout OLD FILTER until you now flush out all your fuel lines with fresh Gas. Add 5 Gallons of Gas to the tank and fit a line to your Fuel rail ( Engine Bay ) and jump the fuel pump and pump the Gas out into a clear container until it runs Clear and clean .
Drain your Tank and Install your new fuel filter and check several times for leaks after refilling your tank > It's best to replace the short fuel line from the tank to the Fuel pump as you will see it most likely is degraded .
Sorry their is no easy way to do the job and yes you will get wet and dirty
re check for Gas Leaks around the Fuel Pump / Gas tank area's and fuel rails I suggest several times > you must tighten the Lines very tight or they will leak fuel for sure.

My guess is that car is going to need a LOT of taken apart, not corrosion precisely, but its a good indicator that NOTHING has been touched since new.

High Humidity and Ocean Salt is what caused all that. Also, even the firewall looks like it's getting rust invaded. I'd be afraid of what his Fuel Distributor and WUR look like inside.

If your not going to pull the tank, at a minimum, follow Merlins advice and pull the Fuel Level Sensor from the top and look down the tank. You can get to this from in your hatch area. There will be a large black plastic cap. Pull it and you'll see your Sensor. Make sure your battery is disconnected and pull the plug off and twist the ring off to be able to pull the Fuel Level Sensor out. Use a very small flashlight to look down the tank. If you see "anything" other than clean fuel, either you need to drop the tank or give it up. Anything foreign in that tank will clog your filter, damage your fuel pump and if anything get's past that, it will clog all your CIS Fuel Injection Components.

My 81 Euro is CIS, so I kinda know the system. Your taking a big risk here.

Most effective filter in the early 928, catches all the smallest particles, are the $2k or so of CIS parts on the motor, the WUR and fuel distributor and injectors.
