My motor seized...

Well that was fun while I had it. Was crusing along on the bypass and scooted over to pass a guy. Not agressivly and ... poof!

Radio was on so didnt hear a noise, feel a shake or anything. Car just shut down. Had her towed to a "Billy Bobs Auto Shop" and they say the motor is seized... no sh%t. Belt still good. Anyone interested, its on Craigslist in Fort Smith Arkansas.

Thanks. What made it worse is.. I replaced it with a 03 Mustang. Just not the same. I feel like i was castrated. The search is on. Maybe this time a 951.

928 intl is having a half off sale right now. Not sure it extends to used engines, but it's worth a shot. They aren't terribly expensive anyway.

Have you any idea what caused the failure?? Did you look at the oil? How many miles were on the car?

Did you talk to Billy or Bob, I forget which one is the 928 expert?

Seriously, have somebody look at it that knows what to look at, belts aren't usually "good" post seize.

Cylinder head -

Hey Firefighter, Man sorry to hear about your bad luck. A buddy had a similar experience a year or so ago while vacationing through the Blue Ridge Mountains. He had just passed an 18 wheeler on a long straightaway and as he decelerated back to the legal speed limit, his timing belt jumped enough sprocket teeth to bend some valves. A local garage had told him that his entire motor was toast and offered to drop the storage charges and pay $500 for his 86 928.

Don’t lose heart - after we trailered it back home - all it needed was a cylinder head, some gaskets and the associated timing belt parts. She immediately fired right up and purred like a kitten.

Good Luck, Michael

That sounds MUCH more likely - usually a motor seizing will be a very sudden "broken" event, or there will be a drop in power, followed very shortly by a stoppage...

Does it turn over? (probably not) but I woudl STILL favor bent valves and NOT a completely blown motor based on what you've described so far

I love that model 928 too. Something about those Intake Runners are just Sexy. I agree with these guys, why give up and settle for a Mustang (sorry Mike). Don't sell it, yank the motor and open it. Also, check and see if 928 Intl offers that motor on the 1/2 price sale this month.

I'm thinking a second opinion would be a good thing.

^^ as Chris said ^^^
Seized, as in starter motor won't turn it over and a breaker bar on the crank shaft pulley turned in a clockwise direction wont move it. give us more to go on.... and how do you know the belt is still good?
Is this an auto?

Wouldn't pulling the plugs and checking the oil help in troubleshooting? Shine a flashlight in the plug holes and see if you any piston heads grenaded. You've got to keep digging. Just to give up just because Billy Bob said so, is ... in one word "stupid." Don't give up on her.

You really should pull the ad for $1000 until you know some more. We really don't want Leo driving to Arkansas during the holidays.

I agree with these guys. The motors I've seen seize have done so with much more fanfare, noise, steam, knocks, fire, and /or motor parts flying out and landing on the ground. The belt would have to be removed (or at least rotated all the way though) to see the whole thing and the timing alignment would have to be checked before a proper assessment of "belt looks good" could be made. My personal opinion is that if you didn't loose oil pressure or overheat it.. it didn't not seize. Your belts probably lost teeth or jumped effectively creating the same result. Worst case is complete destruction of several valves and a few pistons, on the other hand you may just have a couple bent valves. Don't bail until you know for sure.
btw my track experience is that a mustang needs about 100 more hp to get away from 951 set up for the track. (at least at NHMS)

Where is the ½ off information? I see nothing on their web site about it...when something is listed as used is the price shown already discounted?

Hey Buddy. Take it to Perfection Plus in Little Rock or bring it to me in Hot Springs. Don't trust Billy Bob. He doesn't know his butt from a hole in the wall. If your belt is still there you need to check electrical stuff like fuel pump relays, EFI relay, or the Jetronic. All of these can make the car suddenly shut down. You can email me at PorscheWerks@gmail.com

Nothing is on the 9289intl web site about the sale, its just for us insiders and you need to say something in the comments like Mark thanks for running this 1/2 price sale again this year.
