Wire color

Occasionally, I see a member asking questions regarding wire color. I found the www.frwilk.com -- ©2007 FR Wilk -- Best viewed size 1024x768 site for 944's and it displays several wire diagrams with color of wire; appears to be from a WSM. Is there a site for 928 showing good wire diagrams?
Here is my specific issues: 1984 automatic; rear area inside pass compartment.
FIRST from 4 gang plug VI, VI/WT,lt GN, BN into BK, BK/BL, BN(maybe)/RD,BN.
Spliced to the VI/WT is a non OEM red wire crossing the trunk to a BN/RD. Photos #1 What is the appliance for each color at the 4 gang plug?
Second: photo #3 at the rear hatch release: GN from OEM 928-612.037.01"1" and piece of OEM BN PO coupled/connected then spliced to a ltBL from under left rr/pass rear panel. I disconnected the BN & GN splice and rear hatch release still works.
Would it be helpful to "chart"/cross reference each wire color and address it to an appliance. OR is a specific wire color used more than once for different appliances?

Best to go by the wiring diagrams in the WSM, and pretty sure same wire used in different areas or between models etc. Absolute ID is usually a good idea with some much screwing around possible by PO.

Using the WSM is a great idea. I would mak sense that POA would use similaer schemes from model to model with in years. That is why the wilks schematics were approached.; I have some copies of WSM's. They do not indicate wire color. Alan has very good information on newer 928's. Is there a colored schematic for wiring?

I can't second guess the PO. If I can identify the VI or the VI/WT and the BN/RE I might be able to determine why there is a non OEM red "cross/jumper" wire. Where do the VI's come from or go to? They might be electrics for the AT. What is the BN/RE for at the rear of the car?
If there is a chart showing i.e.:
VI = AT ; appliance to DME or appliance to CE( I can't find the VI wires at the CE)
VI/WT = AT
BN/RE = (sunroof ????), appliance to CE(???)
BN -= ground
RE = 12v
BL = ???
It might make trouble shooting more effecient. Currently no one has knowledge of the VI's; make a chart for quick reference. Several members "touch" these connections with trans overhauls or repairs in general.

The Jim Morehouse set of CDs include full sets of wiring diagrams with all the information.

Do you need something specific looked up for your model?

If you could identify the violet , the violet w/ white stripe and the brown w/ red stripe that would be a start. As you see in the two photos the PO spliced in a red wire from VI/WT to BN/RE. If I know what the devises using the two wires, I can determine what or why the jumper is in place. I'm trying to eliminate the "extra" wires to return to OEM status. If you have the Morehouse set or information, I would appreciate an answer.

Thank you G-Man

Not going to be easy, 84 doesn't show wire colors, looks like 85 does, but looking at splices doesn't reliably tell me what harness they are from. I think it can be done, but it will be much easier for you to print some larger copies of the .pdf files and look at them and your circuits and wires at the same time.

PM me with your email and I will send both 84 and 85 files which are about 2MB each.

You really need to get the schematics materials to work on the car - contact Jim...

Honestly it is hoplessly impractical to do anything without this info.

Colors tell you something about function but not specific equipment.

See www.928-electrics.com for how to decode these, you can google 'rick cannell' for more details. but do buy the full set from Jim.

Alan

Jim Morehouse. And he SELLS a COMPLETE version.Correct?

This cannell site offers electrical PDF download diagrams and WSM.

Manuals

They are NOT complete?

The "www.928_electrics" is a primer from Alan Moore to understand the other information?

Thank you for the reply
