'79 925 5 speed spoiler recommendation

Just looking for some opinions. I found this picture with the front and rear spoiler and have been debating back and forth whether to leave mine original or go with the spoilers:

Imo, it looks better naked. I don't care much for the S4 wing, especially on an OB.

Similar opinion here. Your white OB has a classic form, it appeals to some of us.

Painted pliable foam front spoiler or rear lip spoiler signals a trash paint job, whether true or not.

S4 spoiler belongs on S4, maybe.

Skip the spoilers, looks a bit different, does nothing at any speed you will ever drive, a continuing expense with front spoilers.

Having put both those spoilers on I can say that the front spoiler helps even at highway speed and especially over 100 the car is far less floaty. The fronts of the early cars are really high and tons of air packs up under there. The front spoiler also accommodates brake cooling, which isn't really an issue for most of us either. The rear does nothing.

I would leave both spoilers off and work on other things.
The early cars look better with the original lines,
and unless your driving on the autobahn,
your not ever gonna notice the difference the spoilers make.

NOTE the spoilers were not painted they were black,
painting a spoiler makes it look like an Earl Sheib paint job IMHO

if you want a car with spoilers then buy one that has them already installed.
Its a lot of work to cut the front PU cover to fit the brake ducts,
some dont bother and thus it looks even more tacky ,
plus you have drill holes into the front fenders once this happens your not going back

Rupesy,

I have the exact same picture, and that is where I wanted to go with mine, but was convinced to stay pure with #30....it was also suggested if I was going for that spoiler look, to just buy another one.....I am on board with that, the wife, not so much.....

Thanks for the comments! It was mostly for show as I rarely hit the high speeds. Your responses were basically what I though would come out of this. Everyone has the same basic comment at the car shows as well to just leave it alone, however, I kind of like the spoilers. Most likely I will leave this one alone and go with Ron's suggestion to get a second one and pimp it out a bit! LOL

My understanding is that the front spoilers will add a few kph; however, nothing says 928 like the S4 rear wing (not the three piece 924 abomination).

So, add it, add it, add it.

In fact, you can get it here for about half the cost of 'new': Porsche 928 S4 Rear Wing Tail Spoiler: Body &amp Tails, Wings Related

My 1979 had the hatch already drilled. Some where in the chain of ownership someone thought it would look cool. I was faced with filling in the holes, changing hatches or adding a wing. I was lucky enough to have someone near me parting an S4 so I picked up a wing for a nominal amount. I have a spring time paint job in the budget AND a un-molested hatch in a box. At that time I will have them both painted so I will have options. The wing is kind of growing on me.

To the purest, it looks goofy. To 95% of the rest of the world it looks cool.
I was advised years ago to do what makes me happy with the 928.

What will enhance the ownership experience in your case?

Brian, what did you end up doing with the blue euro? Fixing or parting? I'm a bit behind....

Ron, we decided to part the 79 blue euro. I havn't really done anything about it yet.
Let me know what you need once your garage is fixed. I have a few things spoken for but not in a huge hurry.

Hi Jon!

How ya' been!

While I really like a rear spoiler on a 928, and I even like the S4 wing on an older model (if it's done right), BUT.....I wouldn't start drilling holes in my hatch if I didn't have to, AND, if your car did not have them, I wouldn't even spend the money, I say "keep it stock"....Those spoilers are SUPER EXPENSIVE!

I think your car looks great just the way it is.

Chris
