Lost keys!!! Please help

So, in the process of selling my 924S. Both of my 928 keys got lost..I called the dealer and they want 130 to make a new key..Anyone heard of someplace to get a key cut from the VIN? Thnx
Next time i will definitely have Pix of the key..

Car is locked and in the middle of my driveway...blocking it ..hahaha

There is no other way to get a key.
Only Porsche has that file.

I was able to get a local lock smith to make a key for mine several years ago, however; I had a spare blank key for them to work with.

Actually you can, but its tricky

I reverse-engineered the key code at some point..

A long time ago I had keys4classics cut a key for my 89 and on the card the new key came with, they gave me the code.

When I needed to get a key for my '87, I actually removed my 89's door lock and by comparing it with the code that I knew was correct, I worked out the order in which to write down the tumbler digits to get a correct code for the new lock.

I did write it all down carefully, but haven't seen the bit of paper in a while - I'll have a dig through my 928 files (starting with the spare keys folder first) and see if I can get it, as its not info I've seen posted anywhere before.

If I can't find it, then I might be able to find the time this weekend to repeat the process.. one of my 89's door locks needs the surround painting, which I prefer to do by taking it apart rather than masking off the shiny bit badly.

VIN is the cheapest way. Only Porsche can cut from VIN. Gotta assume a) they do it right and b) locks are original to car.

Yes, surely can gain access and remove and rekey cylinders. Or buy a replacement set of locks and install them. BTDT.

If you don't need to drive it, pay the money and get a VIN key.
Even if it doesn't work you haven't lost much. The rekey route can be a wormhole. Mainly because its tricky to get some of the steel lock retaining pins out without damaging the aluminum lock bodies.

Are the door look BLOCK PLATES still in place in the doors? If not a lock smith can unlock...but by the time you do that, buy new locks and install....you are WELL over $140 for a new Porsche key. $140 is NOT bad...my father was charged well over $200 for a Volvo key replacement.

I didn't mean re-key the locks.. I mean take apart one lock, and "read" the key code, then just order a key using that code

That way you don't have to deal with re-keying all 5 of the locks!

I would have talked to a couple dealers, used to be $70 for a standard non lighted key.
