Famous Automobile Designer Talks

Peter Horbury, is an English born FAMOUSLY successful Automotive Designer.
Vice President Design 2009-Present for Volvo Car Corporation.
Previous Design Director Ford Europe, Ford Premier Automotive Group.
Other stuff previous...
Royal Academy of Art, Automotive Design

He was interviewed and called upon his opinion of the most influential car designs of the past century.

He mentioned the E-Type briefly and then went on for 3 long paragraphs (the majority of the article as pertained to influential design)
about how influential and what a "Masterpiece" the 928 was.

A few quotes taken from the article:

"In the latter part of the last century, it was the Porsche 928, which was such a departure from the norm," "this car came along and was a revolution"
"The 928 was long lived, and the mark of it's successful design was that it sold for so long without the need for knee-jerk overhauls," The interior didn't change-it was a masterpiece"and goes on about the checker board fabric and center consul wrap around design, gauge pod, more..

He mentioned how they (when at Ford) received awards for the XR4TI that "they were simply copying the 928"

No mention was made of any other Porsche model.

It is way too much to re write, but if you have interest in reading this 'Profile In Excellence' piece, it appeared in Hemming'd Sport and Exotic, July 2011 #71
Do we all still think the 928 will not become a collectible?

Mines already a collectible.. I'ts been collecting dust for months!

But seriously... It is one of the most beautiful cars ever. I was driving around for like 15 min looking for a spot at school, and i see this guy heading to his car and I'm like "hey i want your spot" and he's like "Only if you tell me what model that is, that is AWESOME!"

It's fun.....

Quite often there is education to your posts.
And it's free for us all.

I can remember the XR4-Ti.

I have not seen any in the last decade here in this city.

I wanted one. I have a penchant for 'quirky' cars.

Although, the B pillar always grabbed my attention, it looked out of place to me.
Not as much as the rear 3 stem wing though.
Still. I wanted one.

The XR4-Ti has something to do with the Merkur company right? I kinda remember something about it, but correct me if I'm wrong.
