				Parting out 1979 928

Hey all, I'm parting out my 1979 Porsche 928. It is the 5 speed model and it has 116k miles on it. Everything is stock besides a few painted items on the exterior. Nothing is wrong with the car. I am simply rebuilding the entire car. I have pictures of the car on my profile. If you have any questions or want any parts just PM me and I will get back to you very quickly.

How are you rebuilding a 928 that you're parting out at the same time?

There are no non essential to keep for a core to rebuild at least items on a 79 to part out, what is it you think someone would be buying beyond fuel injection parts?

You should also include a rough location as most parts will not be practical to ship. |

Most know they can make more parting a car like the 928 than selling it whole. They just don't want to upset those who wouldn't dream of tearing apart a classic hand made Porsche. For Shame!!

There is no market for even a running 4.5L motor. From time to time somebody needs one, but not bad enough to pay for shipping. A 4.5L that runs is almost always worth much more than the parts from parting out, unless you are willing to remove, test, package, etc at sub Mac Donalds hourly wages. |

I can find you those who are doing it in minutes on craigslist. Spoke to a guy in NJ that has two running 928s for parting. He made up a story about his wife wanting them gone? They don't realize how hard it will be.

S4 has a good $4k in easy to sell parts, the brake and suspension upgrade for older cars, the brains, and there IS a market for S4 engines, fan control modules, its a nice long list that sells well.

79 has basically NOTHING easy to sell, doesn't mean people don't try. Local CL to me has some stuff I know has been for sale for 2 or 3 years. How many hours do you want to spend to sell a door and explain to the buyer that it will fit, but all the internal parts need to be swapped because the early door uses vacuum locks. How many years do you want to store that door for maybe $100 or $200? Until you part a car and actually sell or dispose of the remains, it looks like a good idea. Parting an early car is only a "good idea" if you personally need a bunch of the stuff on that car, then take what you need and strip the bones if you want, but the best you should expect is to be able to help out some of the other local owners. Why a 4.5L for a 914? Its a big project, why not use the best engine available? (Euro S hybrid). |

because 4.5L are cheap as you said and a 914 weighs nothing. can you imagine a 270 hp S4 motor in a 2200 lb 914? maybe your right.

Do you think that would be doable??New thread

There is/was a 914 in SoCal with a twin turbo 350 Chevy that was insanely fast. My point regard the 914 is that the cost for a reliable 4.5L in one is about the same or more than a 4.7l or 5.0L. Greg brown tore down half a dozen 4.5L motors before he found one without too much damage from the coolant eating up the heads. Internal engine parts to refresh a 4.5 are a lot more costly because nobody bothers to rebuild them. |

				better way to part out

Hey these parts are going to be in high demand I'm sure, but I part out here and there and I have learned it can be a slow process and takes up a lot of time. Just thoguht I would pass on a site I have been using latley that makes it much easier.... PartingOut.com

no listing fees, but the best part is buyers list parts so I just upload pictures and then buyers can see what I have and make offers on parts. Then all I have to do is click accept, counter, or deny. It takes out the need to check your eamil and dm - cause you just get an alert and you dono't have to answer the same questions over and over etc its pretty cool, but good luck with your part out! |
