Missing engine shocks?

Hi all - hope you had a good Christmas and have had some time to spend on your cars.

I recently bought an '85 928s automatic. The engine shocks that attach to the front suspension (as described in the service manual) are missing. I can see where they bolt into the suspension but, judging by the amount of crud in the bolt holes, they were either never there or were removed some time ago.

Are these shocks optional or should they be there? Where do they attach to the engine?

Thanks

Your car may not have had them, from memory,(failing with age ) the engine shocks were only fitted in the early years of production.

Agreed...they were on early cars only if I remember correctly.

RE: engine shocks

i have an 82 u.s. model, does mine have engine shocks or engine mounts, because my front passenger side bottoms out when i drive over a high or low pavement especially when a passenger is sitting on passenger seat. Ed.

That sounds like you need a suspension upgrade, engine shocks won't cause that.

+1

But you should have the older engine mounts and therefore the engine shocks should be present on your car.

But the engine shocks will have nothing to do with you bottoming out. That is more a function of ride height and worn out suspension shocks.

According to a post on rennlist, discontinued in 1983 when solid engine mounts made way for the squishy filled- much more expensive type.

(lost the link before I copied it -search engine shocks)There is a pic in there of shocks on the transaxle as well, allways wondered what the extra lumps on either side of the rear crossmember were for.

Not true. Earlies are as expensive, if noy more. What they have going for them is they last much longer.
