SD Cal S4 AT $4k, could be a project

Saw this snoopin on CL, located someplace east of SD. Somebody should at least talk with the owner, sounds like a long time 928 guy.

An S4 and a decent looking '84 for under $4K? I keep cash in a safe for incredible deals like that...too bad they're always on the other side of the country.

I think someone who has made special sockets for taking fuel lines apart on a 928 knows the difference between an '84 S and an S4.

Not diggin' the Blackbird SR-71 hood paint on the 84 though.

I remember this ad from 2008, same 2 cars and same story about cars having been parked for sometime even back then. I had contacted him about a few odds and ends from the parts car and the reply was he wanted to sell his parts car "whole," but would contact me if he changed his mind. Never heard back.

This same ad has popped up 2-3 times since.

Story back in 08 was neighbors were complaining about the cars being on the property and he had to sell ASAP. But here we are, 5 year later.......

Takes about 5 years for neighbors to get back their courage after a good beat down. Do you recall anything about the two cars, was one a S4?

Yup, seems like just yesterday we were at MPDANO's git'er running party.

Both cars were pictured in previous ads, but can't recall specific details. The seller always mentions the V8 SONG license plate, so that's why this ad always rings a bell for me.

Dano, if you're serious about running over and looking at these two cars, you would really be doing me a favor. I'm looking for an S4 (I'd LOVE a GT or GTS, but not at the current asking prices)

After 5 or so years they all cost the same, best to buy what you want. An S4 AT cheap is likely going to be more expensive than a nice GT driver and massively less satisfying to own.

With well maintained later production 928 GT's selling in the above $20k range and GTS's at over $30k, hopefully a good project S4 isn't going to be costing that much in 5 years. I have all the shifting I want with my 951S, looking for something I can just stick in gear and "cruise" in the stop and go LA traffic

My answer to LA traffic, is that I am watching CL for a very nice, very lo mile, second Lincoln Continental in the 99-02 range. Around $5k can buy a 50k mile all garage kept dealer maintained essentially perfect condition car. 285 hp, super quiet, reliable, no dash cracks, nice leather, nothing special PM, just gas and go.

After looking at a LOT of 928's, most follow the same rule; for every $1 a car is discounted due to condition vs a nice car, it will need $3 to bring it up to the level of the nice car. The cheaper you buy, the more it costs to own. Even if you do all the work yourself, zero labor cost, about half is parts, so its still $1.50 for every $1.

I have an 86 Beater S here on the east coast in DC area. I plan on putting on CL this weekend - was browsing and saw this. Automatic trans, high miles, At least 250K but odo is broke, runs and drives OK but think the torque tube bearing needs attention, body OK, more info later.

I like your thinking. I should have looked for one of these instead of buying a supercrew F150. About the same, carries a bunch of stuff and space for many people but the Lincoln would have been way cheaper to buy.
