New guy looking for answers
Hi,
I'm from the US, and I just bought a '79 928, from what I could tell and have been told, I have a Euro model (middle muffler instead of cat...M28/02 engine code...dash is all in German, etc). I just had a few questions about it. From what I've read, the rear/final drive is real steep, like a 2.75. When the rpms are high, she seems like she has a good amount of power, but down low, it takes a while for it to build. Is this normal because of the gearing? I have seen a couple sites telling the breakdown of the VIN...namely the 928920 in the beginning, but mine starts 928910...and I havent seen any site say what the 910 means, does anyone here? I would appreciate any and all help. Take care 928 lovers! Lee |

my 78 runs like yours
Don't know why but what you describe is what my car does. It seems as thought the engine needs to clear it's thought before it zooms off. I think it is something to do with CIS fuel delivery.
Actually 2.75 rear end IS the lowest gear available for our cars. Later years use 2.20 Owned my car for 11 years only 120,000 miles. most of them mine. ![]() |

Hello
928 910 means: 928 MY 79 Version 1 is ROW ( 180 kw ) Version 2 is USA/CDN ( 165 kw ) The 0 is from the bodynumbersequence. The 4,5 engine was geared for best fueleconomy so for the best acceleration you have to shift down. Now if you are feeling you miss power then we have to know your comparsion basis car. Grüsse |
