Cleaning flat dish rims
Hey,
924 guy here with some flat dish/trash can/sewer lid rims. They appear to be anodized and are dull and streaky. I tried some basic mild cleaners and a lot of elbow grease but had little luck. I searched and couldn't find anything about cleaning these wheels. Any tips/tricks to getting these back to shiny or at least clean looking? ![]() ![]() Thanks!

Go to walmart or an auto store and get some Never Dull. Best stuff for shining things up. Rub on with the stuff and wipe off with a clean rag or towel to buff to a shine. Also makes a good fire starter....

I wipe them down with WD 40 occasionally.
Have not found a method to clean without damaging

That seems more harsh than never dull. It's made for polishing chrome and silver and such.

I use a product called mag and aluminum polish. I don't remember the brand. Apply consistent amounts and rub it off with a soft rag and heavy force.

Chrome ones clean up fine. Its the annodized ones that are the problem.

I use some boat hull finish restorer. It's a liquid with some mild polishing compound in it. I have the anodized finish wheels, not chrome. I think it's made by Starbrite. Most boating supply shops have it.

yea, these are anodized. They look great when wet, so I'll try to put something on there to keep them "shiny" like the vasoline buff after polishing.

Like I mentioned above, the Starbrite restorer seemed to do a fairly good job on my wheels. It will not remove everything but then it will not damage them either. You can try harsher chemicals but be careful. Show us pictures when you get done.

Well, after entirely too much scrubbing (mostly the back of the "slots" and slots themselves) the streaking and staining is gone. I had some brasso, mothers mag polish, and flitz in the garage. The mothers was almost gone so I figured I'd finish it off. I buffed the front of the wheel enough to get the streaks out and make a uniform finish, and slapped a little vaseline on for good measure. I tested the other 2 products out in small spots for a goof with no different result. Anodizing is a tough process. Short of going the whole easy-off route this did the trick. And I remembered that cleaning rims is my least favorite job.

They look awesome.
I would do this to mine and they would look the same a week later. I finally painted them black.
