928 4.7?

I've been mulling an idea around, and thought I might get some input/opinions.
I was thinking that a 911 with a 928 4.7 euro motor, (or maybe even a hot rodded 5L motor) might be entertaining. It's been done with Chevy v-8's (sacrilege). Yes I know the over steer tendencies would be muchly exacerbated, and 911 purists would hunt me down to be burned at the stake. But still.....

It would definitely entertain the 911 crowd!

A front engine 911 would require re-engineering the car.Can you imagine the fabrication nightmare of creating a drive shaft tunnel, hump etc.? Not to mention a tube frame to tie it all together to keep from pretzeling it. It could be done....

Greg put a 9L Donovan V8 in a customers 930, took a good six months of shop time, but about the fastest thing I've ever seen on the street. Too much weight with a 928 motor. One of the guys put a 928 motor in a 914, but frankly its not a direction I would pursue.

I'd really like to see somebody put a Ford Mod motor in a 928, disappointed when BB changed his mind.

The 928 motor is pretty big, I don't even know if it would fit. You could flip it around and make it mid engine. Ive seen that done a few times. I don't really see any advantage to doing something like that. HP numbers are pretty dismal when compared to a smaller (physical size) LS motor. It would already lose value with the motor swap so it may be worth even less than a SBC conversion with gobs of hp. But for a fun build and entertainment. why not?, it doesn't have to make sence.

I would like to see them put that 928 engine in the BMW 2002 body in the background. It would be a lot of power compared with the ti version I built my '02 euro into and a lot of fun. Of course it would need bigger brakes, tires/wheels, lsd...

928 powered 2002 would be cool.

I was just kidding XLR about putting the 928 motor up front.

The project (if the motor would even fit) would be cool for sure but as Pete said the 928 motor is very heavy and that's the last thing a 911 needs.

I was thinking a tube frame 928 based racer that's ultra light would be a fun project.

I've seen one here in Socal, once on the track at Willow Springs, and once parked in the corner of the owners shop. Owner ran a business selling fiberglass panels and put together a tube frame 928 for himself. I have no clue if it was factory powered or not, but it left some very expensive cars in the dust on the track, crazy fast.
