Intake vacuum line refresh
Well after following the the various upper end tear downs, I've taken the plunge. I've gotten as far as removing the upper plenum. When I did I found the inner workings of the intake coated with oil. What would be causing the engine to throw oil into the intake. I can only assume something akin to a PCV valve. Is this something to fix or something to attribute to my 31 year old Panzer?

This is normal for pretty much every engine. Crankcase vents into intake, vapors condense, you get a small amount of oil coating the innards. If its excessive you may have a problem, but this is perfectly normal.

I guess my problem has been 31 years of normal. The intake upper boots were definitely original. The seam between the spider body and runners were saturated with oil. The rubber boots were brittle also. Zip ties snapped when the slightest pressure was exerted. It was the same story when I got the 2 t lines attached to the lower throttle body. They snapped right off also. I've been snapping pics throughout the disassembly as well as labeling with tape.

I attacked the spider upper plenum with Simple Green and scouring pad. It's back to being silver again.

I'm not as ambitious as Leo and powder coating the plenum is not for me. Maybe the wheels sometime in the future.

Sounds like you are on it hobbyshark!
The oil I the intake isn't kind to rubber so again nothing out of the ordinary. Brittle plastic zip ties, I've dealt with same on cars 1/3 the age. |

Away from the car at the moment. Being a super commuter puts a kink in projects. I tried loading pics direct from my phone but no luck so far. I'll have to go the computer route when I get home.

Have removed the 3 throttle body rubber mounts. They were rock hard and cracked. I'm sure that did not limit vibration in any way.

I mocked up the throttle body mounts. I got the new wires put on the minus the coil wire. The reason? I pull the protective cover from the coil to see the top is actually missing major pieces! It has been in a slow state of disintegration, further reinforcing my belief the wires were original equipment.

Is the standard Bosch coil the way to go? Or do I go with aftermarket ?

Will order a new one from Pelican next paycheck. The missus just pinged that my intake boots have landed.

Well the throttle body mounts , 3 of them , had all separated and were rock hard. The studs were still in the block. I got a grip on the upper 2 on both sides if the intake valley but 3rd one was set in stone. I'm kinda stymied at this point. Order going out this week for coil, and the throttle body mounts, but I still need to get that last stud extracted and I have been as hamfisted as I dare. I may go with a free floating mount at the rate I'm going.
