Heater AC Controls settings and Interior Knob Info Help
1980 US Model : a little help please the controls seem confusing to me
About the AC / Heater Controls : See Photos Please (1) Just where is the correct setting for Max AC ? ( I have no Drivers Manual ) Also Max Heat . I am about to set up the Air Conditioning now that I got the compressor running so next to charge the system. (2) Interior Door Lock Knob Removal : How to remove this Knob ( See Photo ) I have already Broken 2 Knobs off trying to remove them ? I did see a small C Clip that I removed assuming that then the Knob would pull off ? But no ? the Knob still does not budge . it is as if they are solid to the Metal Post they attach to ? What is the trick or manner to remove them ? I don't want to keep breaking them off and I would like to install the plastic Shields that go behind them . ![]() ![]() Door Knob C Clip removed ( Knob still does not budge ) ![]() Top Bar show's Blue for cold ? so do I slide that Knob all the way to the Left for Max AC On > toward steering wheel ![]() what about the Heat ? ( Lower slid bar ) also all the way to the Left for off when you want AC on ? and all the way to the right for Heat ? ![]() About the round Heater AC Knob that seems to be for the Fan Blower is that simply for the Fan Speed or more then that ? Top slider is for temperature Max Cold = left end. Max Heat = right end.
Bottom slider is for on/off + airflow selector Off = off (!) rectangle = console & door vents only down arrow = console & door vents + footwell up/down arrows = means console & door vents + footwell + windshield up arrow = means console & door vents + windshield The door and console vents are also individually manually controllable The final right most position is the windshield defogger, it gets you maximuum fan speed, maximum heating with AC on and windshield vents (manually close the door & console vents for maximum defogging). For defrosting don't use this - turn AC off and use max blower and max heat instead. Fan speed knob is just for fan speed 0 = slow (not off) through 4 = high To get AC on press the AC button, select an airflow slider setting other than Off. The temperature setting is an absolute value not just variable - e.g. you should get exactly the temp you program (once temps stabilize) - regardless of external temperature. You have internal and external sensors to create a feedback loop to do this... however they must be working properly or you will only get max heating and max cooling... Get the owners manual for you car then you will know - if you don't know this there are many more things you don't know too. Alan

Thanks Alan : Did not know the Drivers Manual was available
Now if I can just get that " Door Lock Knob" off ? Perhaps someone Epoxied them on ? I Should have realized what the Bottom slider on the heat control was for with the arrows and such. Ready to Head your way soon to Vegas ,I Test Fit the 928 on the car Hauler I Bought and it is a tight fit but does fit lol > You have to crawl out the window after loading as the fenders are in the way of the doors. The 928 are low like the 911 and the Loading ramps I well have to place in the truck rather then under the car as they hit some rear axle suspension . is a home made Car hauler for small cars only but heavy duty and tows straight |

Remove door knob, the little round center filler pops off. I use a small hook took to get it pryed out without scarring it.
Underneath is a small (8mm I believe) lock nut or on some cars, a phillips screw. Loosen and the knob will easily pull off.

You probably already know this, but you are also missing the surround that is normally installed behind the knob. The surround spins on and off like a large nut.

I have never seen a C clip behind the door lock. It might be someone's "improvement."
When you put the plastic door lock surround make sure it is not on too tight.

That's a Good tip to not make the Plastic door lock Surround not to tight thanks. I ripped mine all up getting it apart as I did not know how to remove the Knob lol However I got spares from a salvage Yard along with the Door Panels / all the relays/ and the Idle Control Vacuum Switch for the AC " from a 1984S Year Model Thanks for your help |

Yep, I moved here from Colorado 6-1/2 years ago. Small town life in the Australian Outback - I love it. Visited New Zealand 3 years ago. It's a beautiful country.
