'79 928 Euro 5 Speed

'79 motor mount question

Can anyone tell me from the photos if it may be time for new mounts?

The gap there makes me think the passenger side mount has compressed:


The engine seems to be directly sitting on the crossmember:



Here is the driver side mount:

I don't think they compress as the old style Motor Mounts are solid Rubber. My old ones were actually broken in half. I bought good used ones from 928 Intl.

The pics you posted definitely don't look right.

looks like a new set of MMs will be a good thing here
NOte you have early mounts and they dont crush like the new style does,
However these appear to have crushed

replace the mounts with later style, they are much better

How do you do that? Mounting is totally different.

Just to close this thread out with a conlusion, I finally got a chance to tackle this task (over 4 years later) and here is what I found. The damper struts were toast as well. I will post my progress on a possible conversion in my much newer thread:
