Back in the USA

Hello fellow Pelicanites. I've been away from here for a couple of months. I left Australia and had my car shipped to the States. It was built in Germany, sold in Japan, bought at auction by a parts dealer in Australia and sold to me. I finally received it this week. I am now going through the process of trying to get a ROW Porsche registered in Colorado. The VIN is on the passenger side inner fender and is not a riveted tag. The local dealer verified the VIN to satisfy DMV requirements. As soon as I receive the import paperwork, I should be able to register it. It is good to be driving my 928 again. I do wish it was running better, though. It has a cyclic idle and sometimes stalls. I'm starting a new job on Monday, and am living in a travel trailer temporarily. I'm not sure when I will have time to troubleshoot it.

It will be much more user friendly in the States, nothing more dangerous than driving a left hand drive in a right hand drive country (and vice versa)
been there, done that- 64 1/2 Mustang LHD-no fun having to put 3/4 of the car onto the wrong side of the road to see what's coming when you are overtaking something like a bus. Scare the dooda out of oncoming traffic as well!
Did you have it registered here in Oz? Real difficult if it was imported as a parts car? As far as I know only Western Australia and the Northern territory allowed it (apart from club/ historic registration)

I lived in the NT. I had to get engineering approval prior to registration. The previous owner thought it was too nice to part out so he offered it up for sale. You are correct, passing was a challenge. Surprisingly left turns, where there was an angled blend lane was also challenging as there was a blind spot looking over my right shoulder through the rear quarter window. One of the reasons I had it shipped to the States was that I would not have been able to get much for it in Oz.

Hi Brian, thanks, but it's not a new purchase. I bought it in 2009 and had been driving it in Australia for the last six years.

Mike, the process was painless. I used Aussie Imports. They had positive reviews and gave me the lowest estimate which was around $5400 USD including import duty from Alice Springs to Colorado Springs. If I lived near a port city at either end it would have been cheaper. My only complaint is that I wish they had given me tracking information. My requests for that information were ignored.
