Is there only one?
Hi guys,
I have been looking for a drivers side hood (wiper) cowl on a "79" US. I have PET but can find nothing but the passenger side listed for MY 79 US. I have searched evilbay and most all the major parts retailers. The pic shows the passenger side that my car had, but looks unfinished without drivers side. So does any one know if the "79" was made with both sides? I would think so... but I cant find one. Maybe I could use one from another year? If somebody has info. would be appreciated. Thanks, John ![]() ![]() ![]()

the early cars have only half a cowl cover. That is stock. The cowl cover is a one piece unit. In later cars, it extended across the entire cavity.
You can buy and fit a full length cowl cover from a later year car. Also, Jerry Feather sells an excellent and sturdy after market version that is much better than stock (you can find him on rennlist; not sure if he ever comes over here)

Thanks Ed,
Wonder why just one side , seems kind of odd like an afterthought to cover the HVAC.? Thanks again for the info. I can stop looking and get a hold of Jerry. John

I've never understood that early design either. Looks like an unfinished product. Maybe the designers wanted easy access to the wiper mechanism? Hard to say, as German engineering has its quirks. Nevertheless, they did eventually extend it, but in the process used a crappier material - very thin and brittle. The early stock cowl cover like my 78 has (a half cover) is a thicker more robust material. The one Jerry makes is the full length, and very well made and robust. That is the way to go.
