Barbed injector hoses

I did a little search to check, now double checking. This is for my Euro S with the 84 motor (and injectors) currently in my Euro S 85. The hose from rail to injector is:

30R9
50mm long
7.5 or 9.5 mm
5/16 or 3/8 I am assuming larger size in both cases is not the injector to rail hose.
Clamp is a number 2? non zebra type screw clamp.

Anybody consider using the Gates heat shrink clamps?

Interesting Mike. Looks like you can get a nice clean look too. My concern is how to remove them in tight spaces using that removal tool. I think I will stick to the trusty metal injector hose clamps, which I can reuse. Neat though.

I am also planning on redoing my injector hoses this spring and do not like the look of the standard hose clamps. The Gates clamp look like a nice option, a winner in my book. Need to do some additional research to see lenght of each clamp, looks like about 1in from the site which may allow them to be cut in half for this application!

Thanks!

If they have those small slots like the radiator hose clamps, then yes, you did bad. You need high pressure fuel injector clamps.

Should look like this:

I will be sending them out to the Witch Hunter injector wizard guys for cleaning, testing and some black magic-ing. I will R&R at that time.

What about a factory looking clamp like ... ? Ya know, cadmium plated gold looking?

I think they may be available as MB part.

5/16 sounds like the correct size. It should be a snug fit, use some penetrating oil or similar to help with installation. 3/8" is too large and will leak, ask how I know

I don't see why you couldn't reuse the original metal ferrules that go on the injectors. A new piece of hose fits so tight (if it is the right size) that I don't think it would leak. But don't quote me on that, I haven't tried it myself. I have 16 original ferrules that I saved for the next time I remove the injectors so I will give it a shot.

I have reused the metal collars on the main fuel feed line along the passenger side cam tower with no secondary clamps of any kind. I found a trick to removing the old hose without cutting the collars to pieces. So far no leaks, and it looks factory!

I would not suggest penetrating oil, many contain silicone which even in small amounts will poison O2 sensors.

WD40 makes things slick for a bit, but quickly welds rubber to metal or glues it.

Either spit on it like the monks, or maybe a little water, but I would stay away from oils.

5/16 ID is apparently 7.9mm which I hear is "close enough".

I thought the yellow was cadmium, now I hear its zinc dichromate, or yellow zinc.

Its in another thread, you use an xacto hobby knife to split the hose carefully and break/peel it off. Then pick the bits out of the caps.

I would not trust the factory hat things, partly to age, but they were made to fit the factory hose and aftermarket might only appear to fit well holding the hat.

My trick is to clamp one fitting in a vice while applying heat to the collar with a heat gun until the hose begins to blister around the collar. At that point you give the hose a pull and it comes right off the fitting's barbed end. Then pull the collar off the hose and use a pair of pliers to tear the remaining gooey inner plastic liner off the barb before it cools. This method has worked well for me, doesn't take very long and leaves a nice clean fitting and collar to reuse! Again, this is for the main feed/return lines to the engine, not the injectors.

The x-acto knife method has worked for removing the injector hoses without damaging those little ferrules. Not one of my favorite jobs as it is a real PITA.

I suppose you could dip the hose in gas before sliding it onto the fitting? I will tell you that it requires a lot of force/twisting to install a new FI hose onto the barbed fittings with the original collars in place. That's why I used penetrating oil.

Danglerb- Reply email sent.

The E-85 hose I use is from Cohline in Germany and meets the DIN 73379-3E standard for low permeability. The product sheet for this hose makes no mention of a "California Air Resources Board" approval.

The smaller of the two common sizes used is actually 7,3 x 13,5mm and is available in any length up to 20 meters. I also offer this in braided SS for an additional cost.

I have a minimum order amount of $10, so the 8 x 50 mm piece you request will cost $10 + $7 shipped by Priority Mail to zip 92869.

What about the SS. How much for the set? How is it installed without damaging the braided ends?

Here in the land of CARB, I think I need one with the CARB approval printed on the hose.

The hoses are available in any length up to 20 meters. However, it is extremely difficult to cut & assemble short (50mm) lengths of Braided SS. If serious about this, please email me.

I am happy to sell this in longer pieces however.

I have done this for CIS systems with Braided SS Polyamid tube , and I can tell you it was one SOB........
