A/C woes…again!

Two summers of cold air til now. Replaced R12 compressor with R134a unit from Griffiths. Just quit on me the other day. Initial check at high pressure port, indicates refrigerant in system. Thinking electrical, haven’t checked refrigerant with gauges yet. Pulled relay, no burnt areas. Thought I would jumper low pressure switch next. Before, I turned key on, hit the snowflake and fans turned on. Need to know which wires of the four to jumper?

Easiest way to test is to pull of the relay G17 (this is for a 86 car but it should be the same for yours) test between pin 4 of the relay socket and ground it should be about 3 ohms or so. If it is 0 then the pull in coil on the compressor is shorted, if it shows open then either the low pressure switch is bad or the compressor pull in coil is open, or you have low pressure in the system. If it is open you can test direct from the switch connector to compressor to figure out which is bad.

How big of a job is the changeover? When shipping cars I was leery to see one not already converted.

Hope ya get it worked out!

Porsche put out a tech bulletin #9501 in December 1995, it covers the change over process.

After 11 days, pulled car out of garage, and a/c works. Weird car sometimes.
