turn signal won't flash

I have an 86 944T. The front turn signal won't flash. I get the fast flash indicator inside alerting me that the signal is not working. When the car is off and the turn signal is in the on position, the bulb lights up. When the car is running and I turn the signal on, the light does not come on or flash. I took the bulb from the other side and used it, so I know the the bulb is good. The rear signal flashes OK. If the bulb is OK, why won't the signal flash???

Flasher relay, is my guess. I don't have the elect. diagrams right in front of me, but I don't see why a half broken relay wouldn't make front not flash but allow the rear ones to flash.

you might have a short in the wiring that connects the front flash light.
