Question How Can I Tell if I Have a Turbo S Head?

Can anyone tell me how to identify a Turbo S head from a standard turbo head when it is installed on an engine?

What changes were made to the S head?

I am going to have a head ported and polished and need to determine which one to send in. My '86 head, which is loose or the installed head, which is supposed to be a S head.

Off the top of my head I want to say larger valves and possibly different retainer/springs. I would not bother as an upgrade to a regular 944 turbo if that's what you had in mind.

No, I believe the exhaust valves are larger on the TS and there may be something different about the ceramic exhaust port liners. And as Ahmat said the springs/retainers may be different.
