Reference sensor bracket removal

I recently had one of my reference sensors wiped out by the teeth on the flywheel. As a result, I believe that the sensor was mushroomed at the bottom because the sensor was jammed. After much pulling, I got most of the sensor out, but the metal cap is jammed in the hole. I have tried to pull it out, but it is in there really tight. So, I figure that I will need to remove the bracket in order to work out the remainder of the sensor, but I am not sure how to get it out. I have removed both of the bolts, and all three sensors. The bracket, however, does not seem to budge. I am not sure if whats left of the damaged sensor is preventing it from being removed, or if there is a trick to getting the bracket out. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting this bracket out? Has anyone run into this problem before? As I am sure most of you know, there is not alot of room to work back there either making this a particularly challenging feat. Any help woud be greatly appreciated. Kevin B

there is a pin that the sensor bracket 'rotates' on... i believe it is on the passengers side of the bracket, and the drivers side can move up and down (to adjust the sensor clearance). you will have to pull towards the back of the car while trying to rotate the bracket, and it should come off that alignment pin.

If you are talking about the sleeve that the bracket pivots on, I have already taken that into consideration. The bracket will not move back far enough for the sleeve/pin to clear. I am not sure why. I rock the bracket up and down on the pin while pushing aft but it only moves a small amount - maybe 1/4" aft - before it stops. Under normal conditions, does the bracket clear just by pushing it aft? If so, can I assume that the broken sensor is preventing it from moving far enough to clear the sleeve/pin hole? Any suggestions for removing whats left of the sensor? Kevin B '87 951 '02 986 S '94 318iS '05 C240

sounds like the sensor is hanging up. did you try pressing them all the way back down before trying to move the bracket back? that doesn't sound like a very fun scenario to have to deal with. hopefully you don't have too much of a hassle figuring this out. who knows what those sensors look like if they've been impacted by the flywheel. good luck!
