Tips on Parting-Out (tenative, just testing the waters)

This looks to be a likely possibility here pretty soon, that I may part out my 86 turbo. I'm trying got get a feel for what all i could expect to make out of the car, how best to ship parts, how to go about payment options, etc.

I'ts still tennative, but i'd rather just part it out, maybe sell whats left as a good solid tub, than sell it with a new (or 100k mi) motor but with whatever broke it in the first place still wrong....

If I were to part it, where could i look to make fair pricings on items, determine their condition, and on that who'd be interested in parts, and what to do with the rest of the car when it's all said and done????

I'm just trying not to shaft anyone else, this is the SECOND time now i've bought a car that was "ready to go" and had it blow up on me within a few months......

Thanks, you can pm me with any q's about the car, its in Washington DC if anyone's wondering.

Check completed auctions on ebay. You can also check thru the various porsche forums to see how much people are asking for simular paerts in same condition.

Do not forget to factor shipping cost, your time spent removing and cleaning the parts, packing and taking to the post office.

I may interested in some parts or the whole car.

I live near by.

I'm still undecided whether to bite the bullet, get a motor and diagnose what blew mine up, or part/sell... Either way, i really wouldnt be able to afford a decent 911sc, plus keep that running, but i dont think i can afford another engine failure, or maybe a transmission going out...

Either way, I'm about to spend lots-o-cash....

I'm unsure what would even be fair to ask for a car with a toasted motor....

I'm in the market for a good bodied turbo with blown engine. Even if the front sheet metal is a bit beat, thats OK, as long as there is not subframe damage.

Whats your location?

Well, I'm in SE Wash. DC, not the greatest of places...

I've been talking to german auto dismantlers in GA, and i might be able to get a good motor for 2k... so i might be keeping the car at this point... so i figure 2k for a motor, 1800 in parts/labor, plus i intend to replace all my radiator hoses, radiator temp switch thingie, and hopefully put a new widefire gasket in aswell. plus, i need/want to put a lindsey dual-port, since i was having overboost problems, and i'd like to replace the wastegate anyways.... all in all, that could end up being another almost 1k in parts... so this will be an expensive investment no doubt....

i thought my 914 that we had already dumped an extra 5k into was full of problems, but this 951 didnt last very long at all. plus, its super-crowded, and completely alien to me... all my mechanic skills were learned on the 914, so this thing is WAY more complicated.......

In being that there's plenty of mechanical issues with the car, i couldnt see myself asking for anything over 5k, being that it costed 7k, a motor costs 2k, and my power steering went out, the rear end is making noises(sounds like the bearings might be ready to go)....so honestly, i think it might be better to fix i, because 2-3k is all i see it going for, and that added to what i have wont get me much of anything for a replacement car.........

my cell is 757-376-3332.... call me if you have any q's or suggestions, i'm pretty much either working or sleeping, so most any times good.

I recieved your text... i'll have to look into it tomorrow, as i have to work till tomorrow morning. My hope is to get a motor that im not going to be worrying that the gasket is already almost out of time.... im very tempted to get a widefire gasket put in regardless of miles.

I guess im gonna take a second swing at keeping the car, for now..... but if it changes, ill ley yall know.
