New project... not even quite sure where to start.
drove to NYC this weekend to pick up my new '87 944 Turbo.
Car was advertised as being in a light frontend colission but nothing major. get there, make the deal, get it home... Nothing really major in the colission end of things, whatever it hit it didn't hit too hard.. BUT now I've got like 5000 other "previous owner" issues to deal with that I didn't really account for. #1: it didn't come with a shift lever. wtf. #2: brake fluid resovior is MIA as well. This probably explains why the brake pedal felt so soft. :P #3: how can I tell if it's a turbo S or not? Where's the option code tag? it's got turbo S wheels, suspension and etc so I am wondering if I managed to get an S somehow, even though I thought they didn't come out till '88. #4: how do I disable the alarm? Is there somewhere I can jumper or something? I want to see if this damn thing runs. The interior in the car is pretty rough in some places, and the outside has several extra creases/dings too... what I'm really thinking I should do here is find another 944 roller (or non-roller but I don't think I want to get a totally stripped car) and swap this drivetrain into it. I'll post some pictures in about half an hour, as soon as I find my camera basically. |

option codes sticker is in the rear hatch at the back. Un do the carpet like you were going to get the spare out and its on the back wall between the rear lights.
I am curious why did you not get the key to disable the alarm with the purchase of the car ? http://www.cantonia.com/option_codes.html Option codes.

the options sticker is MIA. Anywhere else it could be?
it didn't look like it had been "peeled off" either. I looked in the trunk everywhere and the only one I could find was on the FRONT (not rear) wall of the tire well, and it was just somethign about not going fast with the spare on. |

"Option Codes:
The factory installed options that were included in the car are listed (typically) in two locations. The first place is on the first page of the "Warranty and Maintenance" book that comes as part of the vehicle documents when purchased. The second place is located in the spare tire well, up against the back wall of the luggage compartment. The information is found on a white sticker, approximately 3" x 3". Occasionally, due to various reasons, the tire well sticker is not always there." You may have to call Porsche north America and give them the vin # to get the option codes The Alarm may be already defeated if it is not hooked up. If it is active then the question is are you comfortable doing electronic work on the car ? Sox

there is no such thing as an '87 turbo-s'. the s-model was introduced in late 88.

yeah I have no problem doing work of any sort to the car :P
I'm aware that there's no such thing as an '87 turbo S, but it wasn't a late 88 option afiak, it was a beginning of MY '88 option? I'm wondering if either a: my title is wrong (and it's a southern car so this is easily possible since older southern cars sometimes aren't required to have a title) and it's an '88. (build date is 6/87 if this helps?) or b: someone just swapped in the S suspension and wheels... |

1) what's the vin number?
2) are the fenders rolled? 3) are the front brakes bigger than the rear? 4) does it have abs and air bags? (abs light in the dash) 5) does it have height-adjustable coilovers in front? 6) does it have koni adjustable shocks front and rear? 7) does it have the k26/8 turbocharger? see here to identify the turbocharger; http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/eng-19.htm

ok
![]() guess someone did some swapping then. Which is good, since IMO the early wheels are fugly. Where can I get a brake fluid resovior? (or a whole m/c if I have to go that route) |

Early next week probably before there's any updates. |
