Porsche Crest changing to the 180 mph cluster

If i change the 160 mph cluster in my 86 951 to a 180 mph from a 88 951 will it fit with no problems and give me a correct reading???

probably. the signal is read by the dme. i have an '86 DME in my '88 and it works fine.

i remember reading a writeup on this somewhere on rennlist. i remember reading it won't work without some adjustment.

Don't know about compatibility, but the Speed sender goes directly to the gauge and not through the DME.

hmm... that's interesting. on another thread, someone stated the opposite. but i trust sox more than the other source.

I run a 180 mph speedo on my 86'.........and it is accurate to 1 mph upto 120 mph. I did not test past that speed.

would it be just the wiring and the setup in the speedo that converts it to a speed reading. so there would be no adjustments at all. switching between a 180 to a 160 or vice versa. that is what i would be thinking. since there is nothing in between them. i would think the germans would have engineered somthing like that.

Yup, looks like I was wrong. I could have sworn that I read somewhere that the speed signal come from the DME. Probably did and the source was just as mistaken as myself.
