Look up under the dash just to the right of the steering column. You'll see a thin metal rod with a threaded end pointing downward. There should be a clip attaching that rod to a lever as shown on clarks.

'Easiest' way I've found is to fully recline the seat and lay in the seat upside down with your head under the dash. Then be prepared for the intense headrush when you are finished and stand back up.

i called mechanic and ask about the clips he said that just in old car and bla bla,bla..... he got kind hungry by phone and said " I diagnosed faulty mode of the climate controls because is not recognizing this and this I didn't really understand what he was saying some faulty mode of the climate control wasn't recognizing, cold or hot, because he said system keeps open header valve, he insure he check and didn't find anything bad with the header valve, he is charging me 240 just for pug the vacuum lines correctly and tell me that climate in not good!! and sometimes works fine sometimes no!!!is that crazy or what , I guess he wants to screw me more with 1400 in climate new control and labor , I will get brand new clips and change it in shop before pick up car!! will be nice that in fact that could be my problem , and save my self $%%$ by way is not true there is 2 clips where is other and what are pelican part number!!

All you need to know about the broken heater clip is right here. Be careful with your mechanic, he sounds like he's looking for a nice Christmas at your expense.

Went through the same thing myself. The other poster's advice is excellent. Once you've folded, spindled, and mutilated yourself into a comfy position under the dash (take a flashlight) you can look up and towards the center and see the the rod with the white clip easily. If the rod isn't attached it's probably due to a broken clip. You can manipulate the heater controls from down there and watch the action of the lever the clip is on. If it rotates, your vacuum lines and control unit are ok. If I remember correctly, the rod moves a damper plate directing the air to the heater core.

are you still using the same mechanic that destroyed your car previously? if this is a different mechanic, how do you manage to find all these shady shops?
