Cool 951 vs Viper

Quick story - I was headed to the freeway in a 35 mph zone minding my own business when a Viper pulls up next to me (I quickly downshift to 2nd). He looks over at me and we both hammer it. My 951 hotrod pulls ahead by a 1/2 car in a couple 100 yards and it felt good because I'm sure that he was baffled. BTW - If you want to drive really fast go to the track.

What mods are you running on the 951?

Pretty nice car. But could you give me some clarification on how it can be your baby if you are flatsixhead?

Been around Porsches my whole life. I'm a former 993 Cab (95) and 3.2 Targa (84) owner. Both cars were great but I decided to go the 951 route and get my butt on the track. Keeping Flatsixhead because I will be starting a new 73 with 3.6 project in the near future.

Love the 951, on the right track and hopefully on the track a lot more. Love the old aircooled cars with the big motors as well, so I guess I'll have two tracks.

You know, its not really a race when the other car doesn't know your racing. I dont think your 951 has the ability to beat a viper with just a chip (boost enhancer LOL) and light weight flywheel. You would need some serious HP to compete with that car.

Agreed - The 951 would lose a drag race every time. Not even sure what gear he was in and it was not a race. However, The 951 does have stellar acceleration in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears at full boost. Even more so when you remove weight and add horsepower. And just for the record - We both hammered it and he could not catch me and I was pretty excited about that but should have not posted this story. In the meantime, I will be stripping more weight and adding more HP.

Well I'm going to assume you're right, and one of our cars did beat a Viper And why "LOL" at the boost enhancer? It definitely does what it's supposed to do...

So a stock 250hp car running say an extra 25hp is faster than a Viper? Good to know.

I guess it does what its suppose to do

By boosting sooner and your fuel maps staying the same does that mean that your leaning out on Full throttle?

It can be. It depends on car condition a lot.

so, if your 944 turbo has 270HP and has some weight reduction (mine is at least 200 pounds lighter than stock) how does that compare with the stock viper?

Good question - The 01 viper weights 3448lbs/460hp verses 2730lbs/270hp estimated for my car. Just a guess because my car feels much stronger than 270hp but again just a guess.. Hell my 951 feels faster and pulls harder than my 95 993 and I know it handles better so I'd like a shot at that Viper on a track. (With my race wheels and tires on) But that's all driver - I rode shot gun in a 993 (modified for the track) with an instructor buddy at Mid-Ohio and he passed a GT3 and a newer twin turbo which was pretty amazing. I'm still learning and just doing DE's to get some experience.

I was in a car that beat a viper once. Few years ago so I'm not sure what year the viper was. He was alone and there was two of us. We were in a VW GTI VR6 Turbo. Around 350whp. Highway race...viper lost badly multiple times in a row.

The point is I've raced the same GTI many times. I win a little more than half the time. No way in hell a stock (yes stock [woohoo boost enhancer]) 951 will beat a viper. Promise. Those of you familiar with my car (and who own similar cars [peter])know what I mean.

Like 3 years ago I was on my way to the local dyno. At the time I had chips, exhaust, 3Bar FPR, and a Tial 38mm. Running like 16psi on my 26/6.

Feeling pretty confident about my newly installed mods, of course, I pulled up to a stoplight next to a Cayenne Turbo. You wouldn't believe my shock as I watched that stupid mini SUV pull away from me with a quickness. I ended up pulling 250hp/300tq that day. Since then I've added another 5-6 grand in mods.

It also always depends on the driver. You know how many times I've revved at some gay Honda at a stoplight and then laughed as they launch and speed off while I proceed to drive normally?
