Window Issues

I just finished up a project replacing the coolant lines/pipes as well as installing rebuilt fuel injectors in my 86 951. Seems like everything runs the way it did before I started the project with the exception of the passenger side window. It will go down just fine with both switches, but will not go up with either the driver side switch or the passenger side switch. The driver side operates as it should.

The window fuse checked good, so I took the passenger side door panel off but couldn't find anything that looked obviously wrong. Both wires going into the regulator feel solid, and any amount of jiggling didn't change anything. That exhausted all of my ideas. Anyone have any more? Lacking an immediate permanent fix, is there a way to put the window up manually, so at least it is more comfortable to drive in the cold?

I had this problem. It was in the switch on the passenger side. I had to remove and open the switch. There was info at Clark's Garage IIRC. It's tricky, as there are two pivoting teeter-totter conductors, two springs and two balls. I'm working from memory, but with the switch off, I first checked conductivity to confirm it was broken. It was. The switch had a black plastic case that snapped over the back. A jeweler's screwdriver carefully used successfully pried it off. I cleaned all the contacts inside and reassembled it. I think one of the teeters had shifted, but I wasn't sure.

I used silicone lubricant for electrical points as a kind of temporary glue to hold the teeter-totters and balls on the springs in the correct position as I replaced the back of the switch. It's worked great for the last year.

I didn't realize the switches were wired in series (which in retrospect is obvious). That made the issue make much more sense. It turned out to be the driver side switch that was bad.

You're welcome. My symptoms were the same - passenger side would go down from the switch on either side, but not up. In my case, the problem was on the passenger side.
