No, it's the bracket (alternator mounting lug), it needs to be milled down to fit the narrower mounting lugs of the alternator. There is also a spot on the bracket that needs to be milled for clearance. The thread I saw had all the measurements and the modification you need to make for the plug. I also can't recall if it was a toyota or nissan alternator. It's been over a year since I saw the thread, guess it wasn't on this forum....will try rennlist.

Its a Nissan Quest alternator, pretty sure that thread was on RL also; in the turbo forum.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the benefit? Better, cheaper alternator?

Added bonus, if the alternator fails out in the middle of Podunk, Oklahoma, I can get a replacement just by walking into any major auto parts store...not so with the stock alternator. And it somewhat cheaper.

There are a few versions of the alternator case that are specified to fit a Quest. Some of them are better than others to fit the 944 bracket. You have to grind out some material on the bracket below where one of the case screws pokes out roughly halfway between the alternator mounting ears.
Here is the original thread... Smaller alternator issue completed(pics) - Rennlist Discussion Forums |
