M44/51 is the BASE turbo block...M44/52 is the "S" block. It would appear that the engine was replaced at some time. Replacement blocks all had the M44/51 designation...check the engine number, if it's on a tab at the rear right side (by the exhaust manifold) it's an 88 or later block, if it's located on the back of the block (near heater valve) it's an 86 or 87 block, and NOT a dealer replacement engine.
My 1988 Turbo S has a dealer installed replacement engine (replaced in 1989 according to the dealer receipt) and it has the M44/51 designation (serial number matches the number on the receipt). Your option codes would indicate that it is a Turbo S, but with a replacement engine. Your option codes are: 030 Club Sport Package (Suspension package) 139 Heated Seat, Left 197 Higher Amperage Battery 220 Limited Slip Differential 288 Headlight Washers 326 Blaupunkt Berlin Radio 340 Heated Seat, Right 418 Protective Side Mouldings 437 Comfort Seat, Left 438 Full Power Seat, Right 462 Sekuriflex Windshield 490 Sound Package (10 speakers) 573 Air Conditioner 593 Bosch ABS 685 Divided Rear Seat (option code is used twice) 685 944 Luggage Boot Cover 758 Special Model 944 Turbo 1988 Turbo S 983 Leather Seats, Front and Rear Source: www.964uk.com/Documents/Porsche%20Option%20Codes.pdf I show no paint code Q1Q1. What color does it appear to be? Solid? Metallic? I see that you live in Portugal, it is possible that it is either a color not available in the US, or for some reason they use a different color coding in Europe. From your option codes, I see that it is a 1988 Turbo S (with a replacement engine block). Is it a Metallic Silver with a pinkish tint? If so, that Silberrossa Metallic, and they are actually the most sought and hardest to find of the 1988 Turbo S...roughly 750 Silver Rose made for worldwide distribution. Jrboulder...Where did you find Satin Black Metallic listed as Q1Q1, my copy of the Porsche Paint Manual Supplement 2 (WKD 482620.02 Aug 1991) has Satin Black Metallic listed as LY9Y. I don't have any Q code paint options listed.

Paint codes are written on the sticker twice. I guess it goes back to the two-tone days. Really he has a Q1 paint code.
Every paint refrence chart lists "LY9Y Q1" I guess LY9Y is the Audi code and Q1 is the Porsche code. |
