reference and head temp sensors
I just got a new reference (speed) sensor and head temp sensor for my 1995 993 motor. I noticed that the connectors plugs for them are different that the ones on my motor and that the supplier included a few electorical connectors and a plastic plug of some type - the supplier also noted on the invoice that the original parts had been superceded by the ones he sent me and it looks like the connector plugs have to be modified to work - Does anyone have any experience with doing this?

I'd ask him to document the actual part numbers and what he used. There shouldn't be a need to alter connectors. Any superceded parts usually plug right in.

I suspect if your speed sensor is a 996 part then its the right part. The speed sensor on 964 and 993 had a rectangular connector. The updated sensor is of a different design itself with an oval (almost) connector. The bits and pieces that came with the sensor are for making up a new connector to connect to the new sensor. You won't find any sensors with rectangular connectors unless they are old stock with the 911 or 993 numbers.

Alibaba,
You are correct - it looks like the connectors I have are oval and are 996 parts. I just found out that the DME plug for the sensor has to be cut and a new plug adaptor and electrical connectors have to be made in order for the sensor to work. Looking at the parts, it makes sense now but I never would have believed that I would have to cut the DME plug at the sensor. I guess it is cheaper for Porsche to make one sensor for all and if it doens't fit, they will sell you the pieces to make it work. |
