performance engine work

I have a 996 engine in a boxster and would like to have some engine work done, ie port, polish and big bore kit, clutch etc. I had been talking with Motormeister and have heard great things from one customer but searching on this board, I have heard almost all bad things. Where in N. CAl or SF bay area is there a good shop that does performance work on watercooled engines?? What I am really loooking for is firsthand experience with shops that are fair, honest and conscientous. thanks, John

You might try talking to the Bruce Andersen connections in San Francisco area or Andial in Anaheim CA.

There's a GGR PCA guy (I think his name is Chris Murray) who has a 996 engine in a Boxster - it's painted like a police car. You might try to track him down.

Those are famous Porsche repair and race shops. Bruce Andersen writes the tech and is chairman of the tech Porsche Club America committee. His partner still runs a shop in the Palo Alto area Sunnyvale and gives engine rebuilding classes (ask Wayne who has taken it for his book). Andial is a race shop with a reputation for good work in Anaheim CA. I don't know who has dealt with them and can give reference.

Tom, thanks for the response, but this does not reallly have to do with a boxster as the engine is from 996, so I am just looking for a good shop that does performance work on water cooled engines.
I have to say, its kind of discouraging to have so many people look at the post and not even respond. Not like the other "brand" message boards I post on.

Andial is in Santa Ana, CA (not Anaheim) and is world renowned for their performance engine building. Directly across the courtyard is Porsche Motorsport North America. From these shops come 911 based motors for the highest levels of competition that Porsche competes in.

Phone number is 714.957.3900 or visit www.andial.com

If you are looking for someone in the Bay area, call Rob King at S-Car-Go. The phone number is 415.485.6026 or visit www.scargoracing.com

Tshih, thanks for further info. Do you know the name of the shop in Palo Alto?

Ralph, thanks for the info and taking the time to post the numbers too, very helpful.

I second Rob's work at S-Car-Go, up in San Rafael north of San Francisco. Their work and service is excellent.

John,
I think the name of the BA shop was Garretson Enterprises in Sunnyvale, CA.

Yup my mistake; Andial is in Santa Ana (next to Anaheim).
