corrosion on 993 window frames
i'm looking at a 993 to buy and noticed corrosion on the window frames on both the drivers and passenger doors. the location is at the upper rearward corner. the black paint is lifted and bubbly looking. the frames appear to be aluminum. has anyone seen this phemom? is it normanl? i can't imagine why it would corrode there.

I've ever seen the corrosion on the door frames, however, some 993's have corrision around the windshield, rear window, and rear side windows that are covered under the Porsche 10year rust/corrosion warranty.

My car has a bubble in the exact location, but only on the drivers door. I don't think this is highly uncommon. Car was also in S. Florida, near the water, so that could also have contributed.

that's interesting...this car spent most it's life in florida. none of the ca cars i've seen have this corrosion.

Well, in that case, I'd closely inspect the sunroof wind deflector, that was one of the first items I had to replace due to excessive corrosion.
You might also be thinking about the valve guides, particularly if the car was operated with the sound shield in place. I'm having oil consumption issues, don't know if its the high temps in FL or I just managed to get one that was destined to have this issue? Good Luck |

no soot, normal appearance, just an appetite for oil. No plumes of smoke in exhaust when running.
If your serious about this car I would verify oil consumption. Lots of info available regarding this issue; check out PCA.org and Rennlist.com for more. |

Interesting topic. A couple of years ago, my driver's side window ceased to function. it turned out that the "tray" the window actually sits in was fully rusted out as were the connections to it. My pax side quit a month ago and I suspect the same.
It appear that in some climates (my car was from S. FL originally too) that the water gets down the glass and sits in that tray that the glass sits in. If you window stops working ... check it out. We've seen a few of them in the Orlando area now.
