My 1992 C2 3.6 964 runs well generally, but has a stalling problem. During warm-up the car stalls quite often when dipping the clutch and coming to a stop. Sometimes the idle control system seems to just catch it in time. other times it stalls. The car has had no modifications and is well serviced. Any ideas?

Mine does that occasionaly as well, i just give a little more warm up time and try not to stop for a mile or so .....I think in my case its connected with the weather but can't be sure

Check the slack in your throttle cable. It should have enough to click the closed throttle switch that signals to the DME to change programs to idle smoothly.

These intermittent misses are going to lead to frequent stalls and may be indicative to a failing AFS. See the other thread on 964 engine stalling.
get a read out of all the fault codes stored by the OBD1 system in your car. |

very easy to fix
On the air flow box, the throttle is inked on an axle which goes through the airflow box. Put some WD40 (very light oil) on this axle and each time you start the engine move the throttle several times before you turn the key you will enjoy a new car ! ![]()

I'm no expert and I'm a new member with '91 C4 Cab (only ~ 1 1/2 months old to me) with 34,400 original miles.
I was having stalling problems as well when cold & warm! Since my car was basically a garage queen, I assumed that the fuel & air system was not as "clean as it should be". I got approval from my independent Porsche master mechanic to put Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (20 oz. - treats 20 gallons) into the gas tank when refilling. Since doing that, the car has not stalled once! Before that, it was quite embarassing showing my 964 to family & friends with the car stalling quite frequently. I've always used FI cleaner in all my cars before all oil changes with fantastic results (ie- no problems). Hope this helps, Pete |

Aircon (After market)
I have similar problems but mine have been identified as the lack of engine management when I have the aircon on.
I don't want to hijack this thread but if anyone has a solution I'd be pleased to hear it. Thanks, John |

C2s need to have the adaption set with the Bosch hammer if the battery is ever disconnected/dies.....this is providing the o2 sensor is connected and operating.
Although there are other things that can cause stalling this is one thing that is generally overlooked on this gen 911....
