diff lock slave cyl
Can You replace the diff lock slave cylender on a 90 c4 without the bosch hammer? How would you bleed it. Mine is seeping slighty but I am allergic to paying the dealer to work on my car. Thanks for any help. Carl

Unfortunately, you need a bosch hammer.
You may want to look for a few specialty repair shops in your area - they may have a hammer for less than what the dealer would charge. AFJuvat

You need the hammer to open and close the ABS and diff lock solenoids when bleeding.

Please forgive my ignorance - I haven't acquired my 964 C4 yet ...
How many ABS and diff solenoids are there and how accessible are they? Sounds like the hammer applies or reverses voltage polarity to a solenoid. With some schematics it may be possible to come up with a DIY solution instead of requiring the use of a $1500+ tool.

You can bleed the hydraulics including the accumulator and solenoid without the Hammer (hammer does nothing for bleeding those two parts). You actually can bleed the hydraulic locks without a Hammer, but it is not advised since you have less control - you might run the reservoir dry which is bad news. With the Hammer you start the bleeding process and it will SLOWLY cycle the locks to permit slow, controlled bleeding.
Project935, there are two PDAS solenoids that are contained in 1 solenoid block which needs bleeding after the accumulator is bled. The two solenoids drive one "lock" each - there's a longitudinal and lateral lock. |
