01 996 Trans Nose Cone Reassembly HELP!

I am in the process of restoring my dad's 01 996 6 speed. Dumb PO powerslid it into a curb and broke the nose of the trans(and a load of other parts). I got a new nosecone and am having difficulty aligning everything so the 2 case halves come together.

Is there a trick to re-installing the nose cone? I put the reverse gear in the nose cone first, along with the bearing block and shaft but the shift shaft is a real bugger to align... any tips or tricks would be much appreciated.
I currently have the trans sitting on the ground nosecone up.

So far we've only been able to get the cone about 2cm from seating.

Thanks
Erik

We got it figured out! Oklahoma Foreign shipped the new nosecone with the bearing race installed and that wouldn't allow us to drop the cone on the last 10mm. Removal of the "extra" bearing race made it all fall in place.

Note to future assemblers: use 1104 Threebond or Yamabond 4 (yamaha) or Porsche 574 sealant for the machined seal.

Remove the shift lever detent completely to get more travel from the shift lever, trans gel grease the roller on the shift shaft to secure it. Set the trans nose cone up. Install the top shaft bearing in the nosecone with the plastic ring facing up or you will get it assembled and it won't close the last 2 mm.
I put the trans in gear so the rear most, top most shaft was forward... this allowed the easiest alignment of all the shift shafts into the bearings and allowed the trans-gel'd roller into its place. I also had to take a screwdriver and lift up the main shift shaft to keep it in vertical alignment.

Once I was able to seat the whole thing without anything binding, I lifted the nose cone and added the case sealant.
