Boxster or 993 - reliability questions
Getting married soon and we are thinking about selling her Taurus for a smaller car as I already have a new 9-2x which is plenty big for camping etc...
I've owned a 914 for about 5 years now, but do not know much about Boxster's/993's other than that the used ones are starting to fall into my price range (and the 993 is the car of my adolescent dreams) The only experience I have with a modern German car is my GTI-VR6('97) which, though fun, was not reliable in any way. Are the Boxster's and 993 reliable? I am looking more at electrical/engine management reliability more than anything else. Thanks for any advice. |

Boxsters are great cars - lots of fun, too.
As far as total reliability, at our PCA tech session last weekend, the technician stated quite plainly that they have found more problems with the water cooled Porsches than the air cooled ones. If you are a DIYer, the Boxster will be much harder to work on yourself than the 993. Both are subject to rear main seal issues, BTW, not to scare you - just a fact... some have problems, some don't. There are a few known issues with Boxster engines' cylinder liners, too. Your best bet is to find the nicest example of the car you want the most... get a pre-purchase inspection and be happy with the one you get. Best of luck!
