'89 C4 - Verify Ignition Set UP
It's been a while since I've posted, but whenever I get stuck - well there's just one place to turn...
Hate to ask, but I have a nagging feeling about the way my ignition is set up, like I'm not getting the full benefit of the twin unit. 1. Which coil goes to which distributor cap? (Please don't say something like, "number one coil goes to the number one distro.") 2. Are the wires on the secondary cap set up exactly like the primary? Thanks!

Doesn't matter which coil wire goes to which distrbutor.
The plug wires go exactly as they are detailed in the worskhop manual. Why do you think the ignition system is not working? If wrong it will run badly and there's a good chance warning lights will come on. There are some basic checks, but what is actually wrong? Is the belt new? Are the caps and rotor arms in good condition? Are the wires and spark plugs good? Is the maintenance up to date and compressions, leakdown and valve adjustment good? Is the belt ventilator hose kit installed? Is the 02 sensor working? When was the last time the engine systems were checked with the Bosch Hammer? How old is the fuel pump relay? Etc, etc.... Have to start with the basics to get to the end result.
