Cost of conversion: Deleting the "Rear Seat Delete" option

I am looking at purchasing a 964 with the Rear Seat Delete option. But I would actually like the rear seat in the car. Therefore, I would like to convert from the reat seat delete option to installing rear seats in the car. (yes, I know. most folks like to go the other way.)

Assuming I can find and buy some rear seats that match the front seat color, what would be the approximate cost (parts, labor) to install rear seats. I would think I would have to purchase seat belts and the correct carpet to fit the new back configuration. Approximately how much would these cost? Any other part costs?

How about labor? If a qualified Porsche shop does the work, is this a 4 hour job or a 40 hour job?

I am just trying to get ballpark pricing. Is this endeavor approximately $500 (all part (including used rear seats) and labor) or is this really more like $2000.

Any input/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks............Chris

Easy to do, should be plug and play. Just search ebay for some rear seats...

You'll have no problem selling the rear seat delete kit here on Pelican or Rennlist. And guys that are taking their rear seats out to lighten their car will happily sell you the seat backs, pads and belts. I don't know if you will need a new rear parcel shelf or not though. Relative costs for parts, let's say $100-200 for the stuff (call a couple of dismantlers if you want to be shocked), and your delete kit is probably $100 or more. As Pete said, check fleabay, check the classifieds here as well.

It's not hard to install at all. If you must pay someone to do this, it's more like a 4 hour job.

The car must be a smoking deal though...

One thing I ended up finding out is the rear seats weigh a lot less than the factory delete box. I like the storage bins though.

Thanks for all the reply.....The car is a '92 964 cab (manual top) with 45K miles, turquoise exterior and camel interior. I would rate the exterior 7.5-8 (some rock chips and a 2"x2" stratch on the front bumper; no dents) and the interior is a 7 with the a little wear (no tears) on the front seats. Recovering of these seats may be required in a bit. The current owner is asking $22,500 for the car.

He also said this car included the Americas Cup package. I looked thru Streather's book for reference for this option but could not find anything. As far as I could tell, this did not have the Turbo look body. He kept saying it was a $8000 option. Does any one know what he may have been refering too?

Wasn't the rear seat delete with a 1993 RSA?

Some Cab's also did not come with rear seats. They had the box instead. They also had metal tubes to hold luggage secure unlike the RSA box.

FYI - the 993 coupe with factory rear seat delete option did not come with the mounts for the seat back built in. The center mount is available from Porsche. The side mounts are not. I found a set at a junk yard. The seat belt mounts are in the car.

The rear seats weight less than the factory delete box? Really? I always thought it was the other way around. Do you have any numbers, weights, etc? Just looking at it, some carpet covered plywood with plastic doors sure looks like it can't weight much vrs. the seats.

Not important enough to pull everything out to weight it, just curious.

Later, Don
